Zeshan A. Khan is the distinguished Founder, President, and CEO of Xenon Ophthalmics™, a trailblazing company in the ophthalmic medical device industry.
With an unwavering passion for innovation, Khan established Xenon Ophthalmics with the mission of revolutionizing the global eye care industry through cutting-edge telehealth ophthalmic examination technology. His aspiration is simple yet profound: to ensure better access to care and actively prevent vision loss.
In 2019, under Khan’s visionary leadership, the company initially known as Xenon-VR transformed into Xenon Ophthalmics. The company’s pioneering product, the XO Exam™ System, is designed with its patented Liquid Lens technology, making it the first medical-grade device of its kind.
This technological marvel offers unmatched diagnostic precision and flexibility in patient care. With early detection as its core tenet, the XO Exam System embodies Khan’s dream of elevating patient outcomes and care quality.
Khan’s journey to spearheading advancements in ophthalmic technology began with roots in software and hardware engineering. His penchant for innovation and meticulous attention to detail allowed him to craft custom software and hardware solutions early in his career.
In 2015, Khan’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Faceconnect, a cutting-edge software firm. As its CFO, Khan showcased his multifaceted expertise, from specialized international project management and strategic planning to astute financial oversight.
His leadership prowess is further evidenced by his roles in diverse executive positions, where he demonstrated his acumen in areas such as working capital management, mergers, acquisitions, investor relations, and manufacturing.
Hailing from Belleville, New Jersey, Khan has consistently been at the forefront of product development in the medical device sector, particularly in startups. His prowess is not limited to software and hardware engineering; he seamlessly melds his skills in strategic planning, project management, and process improvement. His extensive knowledge also spans critical areas like medical affairs, FDA regulations, regulatory affairs, and the intricacies of eye-tracking technology.
As an inventor, Khan’s name graces several patents, reflecting his commitment to creating unique solutions that cater to real-world challenges.
His dedication to the craft is underpinned by his tenure at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Khan pursued both his bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and a Master of Computer Applications (MCA) with a focus on Computer Hardware Engineering at NJIT. The institution, recognized for leading STEM education and research, undoubtedly played a pivotal role in shaping Khan’s technical and innovative prowess.
At Xenon Ophthalmics™, Khan’s leadership has seen the company introduce multi-functional diagnostic screening devices that employ the latest in Eye-Tracking Software (ETS), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Virtual Reality (VR) Platforms. The XO Exam System is emblematic of Khan’s commitment to precision, able to screen for critical eye diseases like Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, and Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).
In line with the rapid progression of telemedicine, the XO Exam headsets offer unparalleled convenience, enabling doctors to perform exams remotely or in person, enhancing patient care quality and accessibility.
Beyond Xenon Ophthalmics, Khan’s portfolio boasts a stint as a Web Development Manager at SEO (Sponsors for Educational Opportunity), a pioneer in education and mentorship for over 50 years. Additionally, he led Arraytek Solutions, a company dedicated to creating unique digital experiences, further showcasing his versatility and prowess in the digital realm.

Steve Susanibar, MS
Steve Susanibar is the esteemed Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder of Xenon Ophthalmics™. With a rich background in both academia and industry, Steve has honed his expertise at prestigious institutions such as Princeton, Sandford University, and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Before co-founding Xenon Ophthalmics, he contributed as an Electrical Engineer at renowned organizations like Space Exploration Technologies Corp, Emerson Electric Co., and the Controls Automation Robotics Laboratory.
A dynamic software engineer at heart, Steve has a flair for solving intricate software, AI, and machine learning challenges. He’s renowned for his ability to articulate technical hurdles, pinpoint essential technical needs, and navigate through ambiguous problems. His journey at Xenon Ophthalmics has been marked by significant achievements, including leading a team of 15 professionals from research and development to product launch and raising an impressive $2.15 million in funding.
Steve’s tenure as a front-end developer at Xenon Ophthalmics showcased his prowess in developing responsive web applications, ensuring enhanced user experiences, and overseeing the ideation-to-market journey of ophthalmic medical devices. Beyond his corporate endeavors, he’s deeply passionate about control theory algorithms, Machine Learning, and Computer Vision, dedicating his free time to these pursuits.
His academic credentials include a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics, coupled with a degree in Electrical Engineering, all from NJIT. Furthermore, Steve has undergone extensive training as a Software Engineering Immersive Fellow at the General Assembly, where he clocked in over 500 hours of expert instruction in sought-after technologies.
His notable projects include “That’s Life,” an educational tool built to instill financial literacy, and “DynaSoar Polling,” a collaborative teaching application to facilitate virtual quizzes for students. At SpaceX, he worked on high-performance software solutions, enhancing efficiency by optimizing C++ codebases. All these experiences culminate in making Steve an indispensable asset in the tech domain, continuously pushing the boundaries of innovation.

Dr. Bruce Stark, MD, brings decades of experience in ophthalmology to the table at Xenon Ophthalmics™, with an illustrious career spanning various hospitals and healthcare establishments. With a keen focus on Healthcare, Clinical Research, Medical Education, and Aesthetics, Dr. Stark has been a pioneer in the medical practice industry.
His expertise began taking shape during his years at the renowned Wills Eye Hospital, where he polished his skills and emerged as a healthcare professional of repute. As the world entered the age of virtual reality, Bruce’s passion saw him become a vital member of the Board of Directors at Xenon Ophthalmics, innovating in areas like virtual reality systems for pelvic examination and state-of-the-art ophthalmic devices.
Dr. Stark’s contributions to the field have been immense, including a nearly four-decade-long stint at Chester County Hospital/Penn Medicine. He served in various capacities, such as Head of Section Ophthalmology and as an Attending Surgeon, reflecting his versatile expertise in the domain. Moreover, his tenure at Chester County Eye Care showcased his leadership abilities, as he donned the roles of both a Senior Ophthalmologist and President, furthering the institution’s goals and patient care standards.
Dr. Stark’s educational background is equally commendable. He pursued his bachelor’s degree in biology from Brandeis University, which set the foundation for his medical journey. Subsequently, he earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan School of Medicine and further specialized in ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital.
Now retired, Dr. Stark’s legacy in the field of ophthalmology continues to inspire many in the medical fraternity. His commitment to innovation, patient care, and clinical excellence is a testament to his dedication and passion for the world of healthcare.
Dr. Robert Gilligan, OD

With a profound career spanning forty-three years in the Optical industry, Dr. Robert F. Gilligan is a testament to dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to optimal eye care. Earning his Doctor of Optometry degree with Clinical honors from the esteemed Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1992, Dr. Gilligan has dedicated his professional life to ensuring the health and clarity of vision for countless patients.
At the heart of his practice, Dr. Gilligan offers comprehensive eye care services encompassing vision exams, specialized contact lens fittings, laser vision consultations, and treating a broad spectrum of eye disorders. His innovative approach to specialty contact lenses has not only benefited patients but also enriched the wider Optometry community, with Dr. Gilligan authoring articles and training fellow optometrists in these novel techniques.
His remarkable contributions and exceptional patient care at “Gilligan’s Eye-Land” earned his practice the esteemed title of “Best of the Best of Frederick.” Adding to his accolades, Dr. Gilligan was recognized as the Optometrist of the Year for the For Eyes Optical chain. Before rising to this prominence, he honed his managerial and training skills as a district manager at For Eyes Optical, where he played a pivotal role in training opticians and fostering the growth of new districts.
In recent times, Dr. Gilligan embarked on a well-deserved semi-retirement phase, reflecting on his illustrious career that began in 1995 with his practice and ran unbroken till June 2023.
Dr. Gilligan’s academic pursuits saw him through the halls of Pennsylvania College of Optometry from 1988 to 1992, where he acquired the foundational knowledge and skills to shape his future as a leading optometrist.
Residing in Frederick, Maryland, Dr. Gilligan continues to inspire with his legacy in the optical industry and his enduring commitment to the health and well-being of his patients.

Michelle Defossett, MBA
Michelle DeFossett is an accomplished senior-level finance, HR, and operations professional, bringing a rich blend of over ten years of nonprofit leadership and a solid ten years in banking and finance. Her passion for fostering innovative, values-driven environments is evident in her quest for organizations where teamwork not only solves problems but catalyzes cultural change and makes a lasting impact. Key areas of her expertise include Vision & Strategic Planning, Project Management, Operations, Finance, Talent Management, and Performance Management.
Currently, Michelle serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Girls Who Invest, Inc., leading strategic initiatives in the New York City Metropolitan Area since May 2021. Before this, she held the role of Vice President of Finance, Human Resources, Operations, and Administration at Sponsors for Educational Opportunity, working diligently for over six years.
Her experience as a CFO for The Center for Reproductive Rights and as the Director of Finance and Administration for Habitat for Humanity New York City further cements her proficiency in financial management and organizational administration.
Adding to her extensive resume, Michelle is the CFO and Treasurer of Xenon Ophthalmics™. In this capacity, she has successfully steered long-term fiscal planning for organizations, managing budgets as grand as $23 million. Furthermore, she has adeptly overseen HR and IT departments, catering to teams as large as 110 professionals. Her expertise extends to managing diverse facets of both domestic and international real estate transactions.
Before delving into the nonprofit realm, Michelle enjoyed a rewarding 20-year career in financial services. She launched her professional journey with a dynamic five-year tenure at Chase Manhattan Bank, taking on escalating roles within their Global Derivatives, Eurocurrency, and Latin American Debt divisions.
Post her business school education, Michelle transitioned to the asset management sector, making her mark at esteemed institutions like JP Morgan Asset Management, Pareto Partners, and Stanfield Capital Partners. Here, she helmed teams responsible for pioneering product development, business expansion, and process transformation for various domestic and international products and markets.
Michelle is an alumnus of the renowned Columbia Business School. Her association also highlights her dedication to continuous learning and professional development as a fellow with the Robert Toigo Foundation from 1993 to 1995.

A strategic, analytical thinker, Brian Jeffries hails from Oakland, California, and possesses a keen acumen for building sustainable businesses. As an alumnus of the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business, he brings a global perspective cultivated from his professional experiences across North America, China, India, and South Africa.
His leadership style is characterized by envisioning creative solutions to intricate processes and driving transformational change. A testament to his leadership effectiveness is his track record in assembling and guiding teams of all skill levels toward peak performance. Committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), Brian excels at creating inclusive and equitable teams and strategies.
- Independent Consultant (Self-Employed, Aug 2022-Present): Advised various start-ups and SMEs on operational and financial facets. Notable projects include advising a medical device start-up and assisting a cannabis business spin-off.
- Co-founder and CFO at Pyramis Holdings (Sep 2018-Aug 2022): Played a pivotal role in transforming a small medical-only cannabis delivery service into a platform for launching branded retail products. The brand “Kalya” under his leadership received numerous accolades and grew the company to a commendable $4 million annual revenue in just three years.
